Auto dealerships are often candidates for ESOPs. They're typically profitable companies with large, motivated workforces and plenty of collateral. Many times they are family-owned.

 

There are several issues that must be considered when implementing an ESOP in a dealership. For example, the manufacturer must approve the creation of the ESOP and there can be limitations on the percentage of company the ESOP can own.
